Style Council were formed in 1983 by ex Jam lead singer Paul Weller. The band became very inflential in the mid-80′s with 18 chart singles up and till the band’s demise in 1989.
Style Council was a showcase for Paul Weller’s experimentation with a number of musical styles that moved some way from the more punk orientated music of the Jam. In particular theyir songs reflected some of the disco style prevalent at the time as well as more traditional souls sounds.
The band also provided a platform for Weller’s political views, the anger in the lyrics sometimes being at counterpoint with the beautiful soulful melodies.
